Bernharð Laxdal er elsta starfandi kvenfataverslun landsins, en fyrirtækið var stofnað á Akureyri af klæðskeranum Bernharð Laxdal árið 1938. Fyrirtækið flutti til Reykjavíkur þegar fyrsti stórmarkaður landsins tók til starfa haustið 1960, í Kjörgarði við Laugavegi 59 í Reykjavik, með rúllustigum og hvaðeina, opnaði Bernharð Laxdal þar glæsilega verslun á annarri hæð. Margir tryggir viðskiptavinir verslunarinnar, eiga hlýjar minningar frá þeim tíma, þegar fermingarkápan var keypt hjá Bernharð Laxdal í Kjörgarði.
